About Houston-area public schools fine arts programs
In Gulf Coast area public schools, we believe that engagement in fine arts studies is as imperative to a student’s education as any other core subject. Whether a student is interested in drawing as a hobby or they plan to work toward an MFA (Masters of Fine Arts), there is something for everyone. Art and music education’s numerous benefits keep our schools on top of innovative and unique fine arts curriculum from pre-k to grade 12.
When parents and students ask “What is fine art?” the answers are endless. Fine Arts is comprised of the main classical branches of art: painting, sculpture, and architecture. There are additional subdivisions which are included in the definition of fine arts: Music, Literature, Performing Arts, and Film. Fine art is defined as creative art appreciated for its imaginative, aesthetic, or intellectual value. This includes sculpture, drawing, architecture, photography, digital art, interactive media, literature, literature review, poetry, film making, and video production. For those students more interested in music or performing arts, their fine arts education may lean toward music education, marching band, symphony, dance team, or drama club. Our Gulf Coast public schools offer various core music programs that follow national standards for music education in order to prepare students who aspire to be music majors in college.

Fine arts students prepare themselves year-round for district, region, and state-wide competitions, often reaching national competition level in numerous categories. Our teachers and coaches are first-rate instructors with vast knowledge and experience in their fields, and their enthusiasm and commitment to our students is unparalleled.
Our Gulf Coast- area public schools offer traditional fine arts courses and clubs, as well as various subdivisions within those main fine arts categories. The importance of art and art education is appreciated in all of our schools, and the options and opportunities serve many interests, skills, and needs.
